ER Visit #1- done!

We had a scary moment yesterday with our little one.  Some people have heard and others haven't, but I wanted to make sure all the correct details were out there.  Here is what happened....

As I had posted in the blog, we have begun giving Avery rice cereal.  Yesterday was her third day on it and she seemed to be loving the cereal and was keeping far more of it down than the previous two days.  About 30-45 minutes after we had finished feeding her, Dave yelled from our living room that something was wrong with Avery.  I came running and found him holding our baby who was covered in red spots, her eyes were watering and red and she appeared to be passing out right in front of us.  She was not responding to our voices, gentle shakings, or even us yelling.  Scared to death, we raced her to the emergency room.  During the trip to the ER, I continued to try and engage her, but still nothing.

Once we got to the ER, they quickly took her back and checked her vitals which were all fine.  No temp, no elevated heart rate or blood pressure, nothing.  At this time, she was slowing coming back to.  The ER doctor gave her some Benedryl and within about five minutes her face began to clear up.

Our pediatrician's office wanted to see us immediately, so we left the hospital and went there.  Avery's doctor was out of town so we saw the on call doctor who was wonderful!  He checked her out and explained that it sounds like an allergic reaction, but because it is rice it is hard for him to believe.  He told us that he has only known 1 or 2 kids to have a rice allergy!  The doctor said that it didn't seem like she had a seizure either, so that was refreshing.  In order to check for the allergy, however, they would have to draw blood.  Since he is not Avery's doctor, he wants to wait until she returns on Monday and allow her to make that call.  Until further notice, she is back on liquids only!

We are hoping to see our pediatrician early next week and figure out what happened.  As of last night and all day today, she is back to her fun, giggly, smiley self, which we are so happy to see again!

Thanks for the emails!  I will be sure to keep you posted!

Happy New Year everyone!

Happy Holidays!

(Sorry in advance for the huge spaces!  I don't know what is happening!)

Greetings and Happy Holidays from the Glacinski's!  As an early New Year's resolution, I am going to work really hard on posting more often.  Hopefully I can get into some sort of routine where I can post every couple weeks at least!  It has been a busy month for us with Avery.  The month began with the annual Nemer Christmas party and family dinner with my siblings, mom and dad.  That fist weekend in December also marked Avery's 4 month birthday!  When we took her for her four month checkup, she weighed in at a "whopping" 13 lbs 5 oz!  She has almost doubled her birth weight!

I think she is finally a bit bigger than her Buckeye Bear!
She still likes to cuddle with him though!

Since hitting the four month mark, Avery has begun:
  • smiling constantly
  • giggling for us occasionally
  • sitting in her bumbo and highchair

  • to not hate tummy time all the time and can hold her head up pretty well

  • teething- we can see the little whites in the bottom gums, and they occasionally cause her some discomfort.
  • going to bed awake and on her own.  Since Dave and I are off for two weeks, we have started letting her cry it out for a bit at night.  For the most part, she has done awesome!  We have only had one night that was a disaster, but so far so good.
  • sleeping without a swaddle (something else we have taken on while being off work)
  • eating cereal (as of today, 12/28, see below)
  • rolling over- well ok, she did it once on Christmas with a bit of help.  Also, see below.

Of course, when Santa came to the mall, we had to take her to see him.  All prepared for the worst possible experience, we took my parents and dressed her up so we could capture this special moment.  Clearly, she was as excited as we were!

Finally, we got our turn to see Santa, and we braced ourselves for the screaming.  Instead, we got this...

We were pretty excited and hope that she continues to love him.

Christmas Eve came and Dave, Avery and I spent a quiet night at home together.  It was pretty sweet.  It allowed us some time to get ready and get our house ready for Christmas Day, which we got to host this year.

I convinced Dave that we needed a 9-1/2 foot tall
real Christmas tree in our living room since
it was Avery's first Christmas!  It really was
pretty awesome!

On Christmas Day, Dave's parents, and my entire family made the drive to our house for food and family time.  Avery slept for a few hours in the afternoon but I think she enjoyed her first Christmas.

For my baby shower, Ashley made me a duck cake, however
I unfortunately was unable to eat any of it before it was all served up.
So, to make up for it, she made me a Santa Duck Cake for Christmas.
She called it a hostess gift, I called it delicious!

Avery bought Grandma G. a puzzle made
from one of her newborn pictures!

Dave and Lucas were dressed almost identical!
This happens a lot actually!

Trying to figure out what is going on!

Auntie Ashley bought Avery this adorable, and very warm, coat along with a dress that I can't wait to put her in!

Yes, it was December 25 and I was barefoot!

(I know Ralph's head is a bit cut off, but this is the only picture where
everyone looks great and there are no kids crying!)

As mentioned above, Avery rolled over Christmas night.  (Thankfully Avery bought mommy a Flip camera for Christmas to capture this moment along with many other "firsts")  I know it looks like I helped her, but I was just trying to keep her from rolling back onto her back.  Believe what you want, but I am counting it!  Also, I apologize for the high pitched screaming at the end...my sisters and I were very excited!  Volume control might be needed!

The day after Christmas, our family, the Antfellner's and my mom and dad went to visit GiGi in Sandwich.  We were so excited to have Avery get to see her GiGi and spend some time with her.  Aunt Donna, Uncle Chuck and Michelle came by for a bit too!

Finally, as I wrote earlier, we gave Avery cereal for the first time this morning.  I think she actually did pretty well, but I will let you decide!  It sure was amusing and I am glad Dave was there to take these pictures and some video!
